About · Our Story

We started Onyx because the basics weren't being done.

The basics, done without excuses: equipment maintained before it breaks, pay that lands when it's supposed to, dispatchers who pick up the phone. This is who we are.

Every owner-operator we knew had a story about a carrier that let them down — slow paychecks, rough equipment, dispatchers who treated them like a number on a board. We'd been that driver. We'd worked that yard. We knew what it looked like when a fleet took care of its people, and we knew what it looked like when it didn't.

So we started Onyx with one job: the basics, done without excuses. Equipment maintained before it breaks, pay that lands when it's supposed to, dispatchers who pick up the phone.

The team

It runs in the family.

Onyx is small enough that you'll know the names of the people on the other end of the radio. Recruiting, dispatch, maintenance, operations — these aren't anonymous departments at a corporate office. They're the people you'll be talking to every day.

We hire the way we wish we'd been hired: slowly, carefully, and only people who fit. The result is a team that's harder to grow but easier to stay at. Drivers who join us stay, and most of the people in our office have driven a truck themselves.

How we run

The basics, without excuses.

Equipment maintained before it breaks.

No gimmicks, no clever incentive programs, no marketing department writing the pay scale. Just clear expectations, equipment we'd run ourselves, and pay that arrives on time. The drivers who do well here are the ones who know what the work asks of them and want to do it well.

We don't need to be the biggest fleet in the region. We're trying to build one drivers want to stay at — for the long stretch of a career, not just the next quarter.

Open road or truck on the highway

If you've been around this industry long enough to know what a good fleet feels like, you'll recognize what we're building. We're looking for drivers who take the craft seriously — who can plan a week, read a load, secure it clean, and run it without drama.

Whether you drive for us or own your own truck and want a freight desk that respects your independence, we'd like to talk. The application takes a few minutes. If you'd rather call, the number is in the navbar.
